On a fully pumped central heating and hot water system, what is the reason why the vent and cold feed to the primary circuit have to be within 150mm from each other? What difference does it make... A lot of older systems were not designed this way, and I am wondering why they should be within 150mm?

after searching the net i have come up with the reason: it is to ensure that the vent pipe is also at the neutral point in the system (any more than a 150mm gap would not mean it is also at the neutral point).

anyone else know of this?
