Hi can you help.

I put up a new light in my sons front room.

To be safe I told him to turn trip switches off one by one till I told him which one isolated light.
He had turned them all off and light stopped on.
We had to turn off main switch to turn light off.
I used a neon screwdriver on one trip switch and light stopped on even when I switched fuse off.Looks like a complete rewire,any idea's would be very welcome.

Is it just the one light that stays on when all the circuits are isolated? Have you tried it with all the circuits isolated rather than one at a time? - you may have joined two circuits together inadvertantly. Have you wired the light correctly? How much wiring was in the ceiling rose for the light fitting?

No not tried all at once only one at a time,will try tomorrow,thanks,will get back to you.

I am sorry i thought you meant only the light on the screwdriver stayed on when the circuit was off.

Anyway be carefull if your using neon screwdrivers touching mcb's inside consumer units
