i have two fuse spares, one is linked to the other and then goes off in to the whirlpool bath, when i test between live and earth on the fuse spare to check if there is power or not it trips the earth leakage breaker in the garage!
what could cause this problem, everything is wired correctly from the supply coming in to the first spare, to the bath.

fluke t100 voltage testers, i think i know the problem, is it because the earth leakage breaker is too sensitive to test between live and earth, but you can test between live and neutral?

Do you mean you have two spare fuseways which are linked together? I don't quite follow?

Yeah always a common one that is, it will trip the rcd. You can test between live and neutral as normal to check your voltage.

If you want to confirm correct polarity you can check neutral to earth and this should be as close to 0 volts as poss. If theres a just a few volts on the neutral it can also trip the rcd when doing the test.

I have a fluke T100, but never use it due to its habit of tripping RCDs when testing L>E.

Seems to be a bit of a design flaw with these testers

If I remember correctly, you have to test Phase->neutral and then very quickly swap it over to phase->cpc if you want to test phase->cpc without the RCD operating.

Its in the instructions somewhere, and I assume its got something to do with an inrush to a capacitor for the circuit that powers something or other to do with it!
