Hello, I have a query about the combination of a fused spur and a trailing socket. Please let me know if I am mistaken in anything below. Any replies will be much appreciated.

1) A fused spur is the same as a trailing socket as far as the electrical connections are concerned. The only difference being that the spur connects at the back of the mains socket whilst the trailing socket connects at the front. And, of course, one is permanent and the other, temporary.

2) It is not permitted to take a spur from a spur. I recall being told this some years ago.

3) Assuming that (1) and (2) are correct, is it illegal to connect a trailing socket to a fused spur?

You can spur from a spur provided that they are both/all protected by a single, appropraitely fused, FCU.

In answer to your final question, no it's not illegal. The vast majority of people wouldn't know whether or not their sockets are spurs. It'd be impossible to legislate against them. However, use common sense. If you're going to run heavy or continuous loads then try to find a better source for your power.

Thanks very much for your reply. That makes perfect sense. I take it that you can spur from a spur if everything contains the correct fuse, but you can't spur from an unfused spur. Thanks again.

Indeed, you can make as many 'spurs' (effectively a radial circuit) as you want from the fused load side of an FCU.
