I fitted a new 9.5KW Gainsborough shower unit, which is directly fed. I've had no problems in the past with direct feed electric showers, but when ever someone turns on the hot or cold taps in the house the shower is effected, going cold or scalding hot....this is not right!

Does anyone have any solutions for me to try as it's now getting dangerous.

Thank you in advance.

The shower incorporates a safety device called a “thermal trip” that protects the bather. If the flow of water through the heater is too low and the water gets too hot this device will should cut out the heater elements. The hot water will then be flushed out and the element reconnected. If there is still insufficient water flow the unit will over heat again and the cycle will continue.

You should check that:

a) The inlet filter is clear

b) The stopcock is fully open

c) That the original head and hose are in use and not scaled up

d) Sufficient water is entering the house

as goldberg said your your flow/pressure is dropping to low when your opening another tap.

you start dropping under 0.8 bar pressure dynamic then you won't have enough pressure to operate the pressure switch to operate the micro switchs for the heating elements.

check your mains stopcock is fully open etc.

If it doesn`t trip it`s knackered if after checking all else the water is still too hot.
