gap above microwave in kitchen

Hello all , I have inherited a kitchen with a gap as in the photo. I am looking for something to fill the gap. I'm guessing it will be something in brushed steel? I have tried the AEG website but have been unable to locate anything that looks up to the job. Can anyone give me a clue what I should be using/looking for please?

Personally, I would lift the microwave up, to fill the top gap - I think that a middle gap may be easier to fill neatly.
I would then cut a piece of a cheap plinth (or similar) that matches your kitchen, to fill the gap.

Built in microwaves don't have a big vent hole above, either it was poorly fitted in the first place or that microwave is not the original, it doesn't match the ovens. Yes if you can find a bit of plinth or similar that matches that would do the job but sourcing something that matches might be challenging. You never know it could be worth lugging a door to B&Q and seeing if it matches one of theirs. Or a stainless steel sheet cut to suit and bonded to a bit of MDF or similar painted to match the doors.

No, the microwave surround allow lots of ventilation.

How old is the kitchen?

I bought a lot of matching plinth, cornice, coving, fillers, legs and stuff when I bought mine. If your is current there must be vendors somewhere.

Or you could use gloss black to match the appliances

Less confusing for a visitor or new resident. They might try to use the oven controls for the microwave. If there is a clear boundary between the appliances, this confusion doesn't happen. But all this is splitting hairs on a nit.

Why?

In @foxhole's example and my case, the fascia of the appliances overlap the carcass of the kitchen units; any rough edges from a filler piece will be covered up by the appliances, if the gap were in the middle.

In the case of the OP, the shelf the microwave sits on, would mean an edge of the filler piece would still be visible - but I personally think it would still look better

If you don't mind it looking odd I suppose, in any case it's irrelevant to the OP, top or bottom he has a gap which needs to be filled with something.
