I am currently renovating a 250 year old cottage. In one room I have uncovered the original flagstones which are in good condition. However due to the age and wear the floor is uneven which means that on one wall there is a large gap in places between the floor and the base of the skirting. (up to 1 inch). Are there any suggestions on how to fill the gap successfully?

piece of timber same thickness and type as the origional scribed to the floor and glued to the bottom of the skirting
