Hi there, so I am in the process of converting my old garage into a sort of summerhouse. The front wall was rotten and falling down so we have removed it and I am trying to build a new timber frame wall. I have got my hands on a second hand upvc door that I want to install in place of the old garage doors. The doors are a standard size, will come to 212cm height once the base plate and cill are added. The walls of the garage are 205 which means the door will go up into the gable end slightly so there would be no top plate spanning the gap above the door. I was thinking I could put in the king studs going up into the gable and then the frame for the door attached to that with lots of noggins etc to brace it all together. It won't be load bearing as the roof is supported by a metal frame inside.
Just want to check that I'm not missing a glaringly obvious flaw by not having a top plate spanning the wall before I start construction.
Thanks
