Not to sound obvious but is there an obstruction in the jam or elsewhere? Did it used to open/close OK?

In the jam sorry?

Yes it did and then it used to come down and stop higher up and if i dont press the button again it will just go up.

I removed everything away from the door and now it nearly touches the bottom but still will go back up if I dont press the button.

The only thing I removed was the door contact which was connected to the alarm but wouldn’t see this being the issue as it had the problem before then.

Sorry, in the runner either side of the roller door. If something whacks it and causes a dent it can pinch the door and cause it to think there's a block. Unlikely but always possible.
Any chance of more pics?
Does sound like a sensor issue. I don;t suppose any part of the system (not the fob) is battery operated is it?

What's the state of that mesh tape? Is it clagging up the works a bit?

Yes. Looks in a bit of a state on both sides. Perhaps it's binding up the door making it think it's hit an obstacle

What is the tape for? Added some more pics, its nearly about to spilt on one side so definitely not good, assume I need a specialist to replace?

Not my area of expertise.... nevertheless... I have worked in houses where the alarm had an IR beam that would trigger if the door was lifted up and someone walked in and past the beam. However, the same beam would stop the door closing if someone walked in the opposite direction (from the garage outwards).

I have no idea if your removing the sensor has caused the problem. Why not put it back on and see what happens?

The tape is probably just to cover any sharp edges, my more recent installation has plastic end caps. That door looks as if it needs some heavy duty maintenance.

It looks to be holding slats together and also help with winding the door up.
The door does look a bit ancient so possibly time to get some quotes for a replacement
