What size cable would be suitable for putting electricity in my garage. Can this be run from my cooker point as it is in a suitable position. The cable will then be run overhead. The garage electricity supply will be used for lighting and fridge freezer, and general lawn mowing duties etc.I look forward to hearing some expert advice, thanks.

It should be a seperate supply from the consumer unit and definately not run from the cooker supply!

Depending on the distance to the garage I would suggest a minimum of 6mm and preferably wire armoured (relatively cheap these days) I would also bury it if possible ...if not then a catinery wire should be used to fasten it onto if it is going to be overhead

a seperate 'Garage' consumer unit should also be used, this consists of a 30-miliAmp trip RCD and 2 MCB's (6 and 16 amp for lighting /sockets)
The RCD is an IEE legal necesity for any outdoor socket!

Screwfix sell these units at approx £38, the cable itself can me bought by the metre from your local Electrical Wholesaler
