I think ive almost finished digging out for my garage.

Its light use only, few hobby benches and motorcycles. There is no car access.

Floor will be 3-4" of type 1 then 3-4" of concrete.

Maybe not quite as thick as it could/should be but unless this is definately going to be really bad ill live with that.

Thing is, i have been thinking about maybe putting some insulation in it too. I eventualy will insulate the whole garage (block walls, single skin).
I really dont want to dig any more though, 30 square meter garage already dug down by hand 18" to floor plus footings.

If its worth insulating the floor i could dig down a little more and put a thin layer of insulation in but is it worth it unless i do it properly? Is it worth putting say 25mm of polystyrene in or not. Cant afford to go for proper insulation, and dont want to dig down enough to put 100mm of polystyrene in.

Also, i was going to split the floor in half with an expansion joint, is that enough? Will give 2 floors 4mx3.5m.
Will i need mesh in the floor?

I want to do the floor well, but within limits. I have a small budget to build the garage and about 8" of floor depth to play with without more digging. I know im cutting corners but which corners do i cut more :)

Oh, and yes, it will get a damp membrane.

Thanks.
