I have an attached garage on my house with rooms above, I would like to fit a wood burner in there, would my flue outside need to run to above my existing house roof height?

Is the roof/loft area of your house or any neighboring house, converted to a bedroom or such like and I presume the garage/rooms above roof is lower than the house roof? but by how much...pinenot :)

Also important is whether it is safe to have an 'open fire' in the garage with its potential for flammable liquids and vehicles with petrol stored in there! I don't think I'd do it.

Only room sealed gas appliances, ie balanced flued, can be installed in a garage unless in a separately sealed and externally ventilated fire resistant enclosure.
