As part of a total house renovation im adding power to the garage using 2.5mm swa buried underground. Its all getting signed off by a qualified electrican i just want it right before he arrives. My question is where the cable exits the house, there will be approx. 6" of vertical cable on show above ground, does this have to be in metal conduit or ok just the bare cable?

Thanks

If you expect a qualified electrician to sign of the design and installation then you will have to ask him what is his design for where the cable exits the house.

He cannot sign of someone else's design as being his design.

Basically, armoured cable requires no further protection. It is armoured.

But Bernard is right. Your electrician must be responsible for the entire project, even if you do the grunt work.

For example, how do you know that 2.5mm² is adequate?
How deep will the cable be buried?
Who is providing the warning tape?
Where is the feed for the garage coming from?

and more…………..

2.5mm is to his spec
Its 600mm deep to his spec
im adding the warning tape to his spec
The feed is direct from the CU to his spec

He never specified any conduit its more me beng curious really

Thanks for the replies chaps

Hi, yes in answer to your actual question -no additional mechanical protection is required on the SWA cable. Glad you have a competent electrician on board.

Kind Regards,
