Hi, I'm thinking about converting the integral garage I've got into an office. I presume its not as simple and putting up a breeze block wall behind the garage door, putting some flooring down, installing some ceiling boards a few lights and a more secure rear door?

Bound to be more red tape to it than that!

It needs to be done in such a way that its not a massive job to reverse it when the house gets sold, if needs be.

Anyone give me some guideance as to what's involved, particularly with Building regs. I also presume I need to tell the council about it too?

The less you do the more reversible it will be.

But, if you want a comfortable habitable space then you need to think about building regulations or at least going some way to obeying them!

You can 'improve' any building, but whether you have done enough to make it comfortable and condensation free, is another matter. The last thing you want is sensitive electrical equipment being ruined when the cold weather sets in.

However, if you are asking "do i (legally) need building regulations to turn a garage into habitable dwelling?", then the answer is yes.

East Cambs is probably not your area but the rules are the same wherever you are in England, Wales &, I think, N Ireland; Scotland seem to have their own rules but I'm not sure how much they differ

As Noseall said, it’s a question of how permanent & legal you want it to be; but there is always the chance someone will "shop" you
