Hi,

I have just purchased a new wooden garden gate which is 98cm wide and 182 cm high. I want to use some Tee Hinges but am unsure whether I should attach these directly to the wall where the gate will be positioned or first attach a frame to the wall and attach the Tee Hinges to this. What is the best approach.

Thanks for looking.

Steve

Fixing the hinges to a treated timber frame would be the usual way......presuming you have the room, of course!

Hi John thank you for your reply. There is the room to put a frame. How wide would the post on the wall side have to be or is the purpose of this just to ensure the hinges are level. ie. Could I use a 22mm thick plank against the wall?

Thanks

Steve

in general not really as 22mm is planed untreated sizes
treated tends to be 25mm x say 50mm
