Hi
I wish to lay a garden path, I was going to use square brickets 50mm thick, could any one tell me how to construct the path base and what materials to use. Thanks for any advice.

when laying a narrow block paved area such as a path, then i tend not to use the:- lay on sand with compacter method, as the compacter, coupled with the risk of spread, can allow for an uneven pathway.

we tend to lay paviors onto a sharp sand/cement dryish mortar. this eliminates the need for the unpredictable compactor.

it does mean using a cement mixer though.

if you need to use edging kerbs then you are best just laying one edge first.

then lay the paviors, starting against the laid edging, finishing at a free edge.

then lay the opposite edge kerb, butting it to the paviors. this saves having to guess the width measurement.

Thanks, noesall. Any Idea what mix of sand and cement to use and what depth to use.

5:1 (sharp sand/cement) will be more than adequate. don't mix it sloppy. a dry almost crumbly mix will be ideal.

30-50mm depth of mortar bed would be best.
