Hi,

I want to build on top of this current retaining wall so the total brick layers are about 6-7 layers.

Some of the top bricks (level 3) are cracked so they will all be removed, will keep the first 2 layers as it is a retaining wall after all so don't want a spill out etc. However I want to redo the pointing on them.

In regards to the pointing of the current build can I get away with just using the same mix as I would for the new bricks I lay? As I have heard that one shouldn't mix and match especially when redoing pointing for older builds that may have contained limestone or whatnot?

Also I will be using a mix of used repurposed bricks that I have collected from Facebook marketplace, some of the bricks have small chips on the corners, and feel quite 'soft' other ones are harder, there is also a few mm of difference between some maybe about 0.5mm edge or so. Will this pose problems for a wall of such a height?

The photo of the complete wall is AI generated, just to give some perspective.
