garden tap 'pointing up'

Just installing my outside garden tap. I have got a copper pipe with a connector/flange already on the end, so i just screw the tap onto this.

When i fully tighten the tap, it points upwards!

Is the fix for this to just wrap a lot of PTFE around the thread of the tap before screwing it in to the flange?

Adjust the PTFE turns...wind as a taper.

As above, yes, and do it without PTFE first so you count how many turns it takes to get to the correct position.
