Hello all

I had an alarm fitted in December and all is well with it, but now got to the point would like to programme an additional area with some of the sensors.
Panel is a GardTec 595.

I have read the user manual cover to cover and couldn't see how to, so rang the install company back. He said that the engineer programmed them at install, and I would need engineer info to do what I want.
He said would get back to me after talking to the boss. I can't imagine they will willingly come back to re-programme a 3rd area for free.

Is this a normal practice thing to generate work for the installer, or a code of practice restriction that you don't get all the info?

I thought I read on some of the posts that having the engineer password won't get you past a set alarm, only allows programming when de-activated.
Not sure if this is all the facts...

I didn't want a service contract and had hoped it was all self-sufficient.

Anyone got an Engineer's manual for this GardTec panel, by any chance?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice offered.

No, it is not a way of earning extra revenue for the installer. It is a way of protecting you, the customer. The installer programmes the panel to meet your requirements. It is locked to prevent people altering these settings and thereby potentially rendering the system inoperative. It also protects the installer from accusations of negligence (assuming he's done it right).

Same rules apply with many systems, not just intruder.

Thanks for the prompt feedback.

Yeah, unfortunately installation got delayed by 1 week due to sickness of the guys at the installer's company.
When it ended up being installed, I was then overseas in a different timezone. Made it difficult liaising with the installer. I had a quick stab, but was difficult without being there.

Wondered if it was possible to get your specific manual from the installer - would save them a trip.
