I get the impression you wished their were more so you can justify your pompous attitude to diyers on forums like these.

O.K. So I may have been a bit lazy with the link but at least I looked the info up. Some people just like to pick. (pretending to be huffed emoticon)

I fear we are witnessing a disturbing trend among the elderly in that they are carrying out diy gas work to eke out their meagre pensions.

Yes! the last OAP and his dog survived as well. It seems that if you are in the epicenter of the explosion you have a good chance of surviving - even though your entire house ends up 50 yards from where you would ordinarily expect to find it.

Why does everyone assume faulty installation?

It's more probable IMO that this 91 year old woman left the gas on after boiling the pan of milk for her late night Horlicks then came down in the morning turned on the Kitchen light and ... Kabooom!

It's only a matter of time before this Government bring out a building regulation (Part Z?) to ensure that elderly people are fully safety compliant

Er, you wouldn't be softus by any chance?

I once got a call from a guy enquiring about a lockable saftey valve for the gas supply so that only carers could use the appliances. His mother had developed the habit of switching on the gas at the cooker and not lighting it and had even been caught putting newspapers and sticks onto the inset gas fire. Scary.
