Hi it depends on what type of gas fire you are installing anyway it will have to be twinwall also its a lot to do with the length of the flue 5" would be the min and you will need a starter block at the bottom which is made of metal and has a full size opening around 21 H 16 " W then the closure plate fixes to that srewed with prs10 tape as a seal there should be no wood anywhere near the flue if its an internal one it will have to be firestopped as it passes through the floors all gas fire flues must have a cross section calculation and more so with decorative effect fires anyway whoever is fitting the fire must be corgi rgistered and should know what is req by todays standards it sounds like a ballanced flue would be better
