We have a Logik HE balanced flue gas fire which has recently become awkward to ignite. If I try to light the pilot, using the prescribed method, nothing happens. However, as I move the lever towards the high flame position, the fire suddenly lights, quite dramatically. The fire was serviced recently, although the engineer was from our heating and plumbing company, and admitted that they would service but not repair any major problem. He confirmed that there was gas available, at the pilot position, but it wouldn’t ignite electronically, he could light it manually with a spark generator. We put in a brand new battery to no avail. I obviously need a gas fire engineer to attend but the nearest one is about forty miles away. Before I commit to that call out cost plus sundries, can anyone suggest where my problem may be. Once the fire lights it stays on until I switch it off, so I’m happy with thermocouple. I’m sceptical of the igniter as the contacts, for the battery terminals, are not the usual shape for a PP3 battery
