I need to replace the kitchen worktop and plan to fit a new gas hob and sink as part of this. I am happy with the sink fitting but wanted to check if I need a Gas Safe engineer to remove the current hob and then again to fit the new one? i.e. is it safe for me (not a Gas Safe Engineer!) to remove an existing gas?

If it’s in your own property then you need to be competent to remove it, if doing it as a business the you need to be gas safe registered. If you’re unsure, enlist a gas safe registered engineer.

Thanks. In your own property, can you also fit the new gas hob or does this always require a Gas Safe engineer?

You can do whatever you like, as long as you are competent (as mentioned). Do you have testing equipment and know how to use it properly?

It's simple...you're not competent. Get someone in. 95% of gas leaks I come across are on hobs...fitted by kitchen fitters and diyers.

I concede, thoroughly incompetent and will be getting someone in. Useful to understand the rules.
