I'm designing my new kitchen and I want to put a gas hob 20cm from a side wall. The last instruction manual I looked at said it had to be 60cm from a side wall, does anyone know if other models allow it to be closer? (got any links?). Seems strange to me that it can be only a few cm from the back wall but close to a side wall is a no-no :? (will be connected by GSR technician)

Find a gas hob that allows you to fit it 20cm from a side wall then, common sense really. Try Currys/ different manual.

But you're not likely to ever have to reach over sources of heat from the back of the hob.

if it`s a hob, he`s hardly likely to reach over from the sides to be fair, most likely be a worktop.Maybe there should be a 200/600mm plate/barrier at front of the hob.

I take the point about pan handles/reaching for the back ring in the corner but 600mm is a bit excessive, was just wondering if this is standard or not . . . now found some manuals (neff, smeg) which say 100-110mm so all good :D
