does anybody now how water will get into external gas pipes ,steel or plastic

Has water got into external gas pipe????? how do you know???
and if it has then its still not your problem, just contact your gas supplier,
they will sort it !!!

Yes really simple there is a hole in the pipe somewhere along its length can be hundreds of yards away from your supply it just finds the lowest point then either cuts pressure or causes house to go off altogether.
But the emergency provider will struggle to find the leak as it doesn`t always let gas out depending on ground conditions
Worst case scenario i have seen is water coming out of cooker burners. But that was after 100k gallons got into the network.

Plastic pipes coming off of cast pipes show it up worse as they have more dips in them

A known problem with low pressure gas mains.

I have a condensate trap in the garden to take the water off.

Could happen if someone accidentally connects the water main to a gas pipe...
