Hi,

I'm building a house next door and the gas mains to our existing house goes to where the new build will be so I though keep this for there and put a new mains in to our existing house.

I suggested turn off the old mains until the new house built - add a meter and switch back on.

But I'm told that once the gas mains is turned off it cannot be turned back on due to contamination etc?

Is this correct?

Many Thanks

Keep it as it is until you are ready to do the change!

They are really silly about gas mains!

If you dont use it for 12 months they like to disconnect the pipe and will refuse to use it again.

If however, you "pay" for a supply and have a meter attached then they will leave it for years!

I suppose its based on their wish to keep receiving the payment for the supply pipe!

No it is a mandatory safety thing from the regulators yet again you make things up Agile.
And in many instances yes they will use the existing pipe turned off at house entry tee is an everyday example

They threatened to cut off my supply.

I had to pay for a gas supply to be reconnected ( free ) and agree a no standing charge tariff.

So the pipe has been pressurised for last 8 years but none used or any charges made to me.

i guess in Agiles own little world that reply makes some sort of sense
