Gas Meter Changing

Do any of you learned peeps happen to know at what interval Transco/SGN reckon to change their meters. I seemed to remember something like every 10 years.

Longer in practice I think. Though they have to change rusty ones, E6's with blank displays, etc.

It used to be twenty years now it`s down and they are changing a certain type will check tomorrow

I still go to some that are out of the ark. BG customers are getting new ones as BG want to own the meters apparently.

They are changing the E6 electronic (brick) meters just now as they have an internal battery that is coming to end of it`s life and they cannot get the batteries for them or new E6 meters so are replacing with nomal meter also meant to be an issue with a certain german meter that starts leaking so these are also being changed

I was wondering if an 18yo meter that I came across the other day was overdue for a change hence my original question.

You could always call in another problem eg low pressure and see what NG say when they see it. Bet they wouldn't change it though

Shear off the test nipple by over tightening and it will get replaced.

Done that twice now (heavey handed donkey emoticon)

Why change it ,the reason they change them is they wear and pass gas in the customers favour

In the basement of Brent Town Hall there is a 1936 gas meter ( big one with 3" connections ).

That was three years ago but it was not immediately obvious if it was still in current use.
