Our four ring gas hob will need replacing and am considering an induction but my partner isn’t convinced. As I am weighing up the pros and cons (running costs, ease of use, move away from gas primarily) I would welcome thoughts from those that have done the switch (or not).

Personally it's induction every time for me......simple cleaning and as much temperature control as gas. We have a Caple at home and a Bosch in the holiday gaff.......to my surprise the Caple unit is more controllable but both have been completely reliable.
You can't use non ferrous pans though!
Our 5 hob unit needed it's own dedicated power supply cable so it could be worth considering that when you choose.
John :)

I have 2 Neff Domino hobs

A 2 ring induction hob and a 2 ring gas hob

Gas heats the pan and also the room. Induction heats only the pan.

Almost all my cooking uses the induction.

Gas hob and box of matches is a backup in case of power cuts

We've had one for a few months after a lifetime of gas and are quite impressed. I believe running costs are quite competitive. The only issues I've found are:
when frying eggs - you need to be aware that if you tilt the pan too much it cuts off the power - but I seem to have adjusted to this - either I retain sufficient contact or I don't notice any more,

the number of increments on the controls - my brother in law has 14, plus half settings (so 28), and only a +/- button to set them, so it's ridiculous scrolling up and down, I also think he has to choose the ring first/swap between then as only 1 set of +/- buttons. Ours (AEG) has 14 + Pan, and an individual control for each ring and it's linear so just press where you want - almost as simple as turning the gas knob up and down.

I wouldn't go back to gas.

It depends how much and to what level you cook.
Chefs use gas for a reason.

Tosh. Heat is heat is heat.... the reason why a lot of kitchens use them is reliability... gas is not better at cooking food, oooh the induction hob has gone off call a sparky, the flame has gone out, strike a match.

Sure thing...NOT.
Speak to any chef and hear it from them.

I have few subcontinental Asian customers. Trying to cook chapatis on an induction hob will, according to them, be rather difficult.

or a griddle plate as its known..... you should try getting then up to date... https://girnarmachine.com/product/automatic-roti-making-machines/ or if its lower scale something like : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Andrew-Rev...-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

what on earth do you think they do chuck the roti dogh of a gas burner....

I was looking at induction hobs and was told they were not recommended if you have a pacemaker fitted, just something to consider for those who have or might have one fitted.

Your first link is an impressive beast- 2000 chapatis per hour- but it is gas based.

I grew up watching women (and it was normally women) throwing the chapatis on to the gas hob pan stands and then flipping them. I guess the intention was to get a tiny bit of charing. Not sure that the griddle plate in your second link would suffice.

EDIT - 15 seconds in you see the guy throw it on to the pan stand.

Never heard that before. Not saying you are wrong, just never heard it before.
