hi guys this question is for you great gas technicians out there. Im trying to figure what the purpose of a by pass on a gas oven is- is it anything to do with keeping the burner lit when the temprature set by the stat is reached??

Also guys can anyone explain how you would get the gas rate of an appliance using a propane bulk storage tank.?

Yes. valve closes, and by pass lets small amount by to maintain flame

That is exactly it's purpose.
The gas rate of any appliance is usually on the data badge,or in the manufacturers instructions.[/list]

thanks for responses guys.. Ok about the gas rate since being a bulk tank (and having no meter) wont be able to get badge number from that but will be able to get manufature instructions. Looking over notes i had, i had written to get gas rate of bulk tank without meter was:

1. check burner pressure with u-gauge (check manufacture instructions)
2. check injector size
3. check flame picture

would this be the right procedure??

not yet rgi still doing the course but looking back on notes from gis. So does that procedure seem right?
