The reality is that we don't know if this is an existing gas pipe or not. The OP has not made that very clear.

I only made a general statement about DIY gas work.

I made a common mistake when speaking to customers rather than RGIs and I think that DP did as well.

A gas mixture which will burn is correctly described as "flammable" rather than the common parlance of "inflammable".

I have corrected my earlier post and suggest that DP does as well.

The gas pipe on the left is 5 inches from the socket. I know this should be 6 inches away min. But is it ok as there is a batten inbetween I.e an insulating material?

The E is for explosive. An explosion is where the rate of burning is considered ( or later found ) to be such that the rate of expansion of gases ( air, unburnt gas and combustion products ) will be such that a shock wave with destructive energy will be created. ( school room physics circa 1958 )
