Hi All,

I have recently erected some swan neck driveway gates. They are 5 foot high rising to 6 foot in the centre.

I have drop bolts at the bottom of the gates and a latch 2/3rds of the way up. The latch has now bent in the winds. It hasn't been that windy ( not compared to what we get in the winter months ). Any suggestions as to how I can make the gates more secure and or where to buy stronger latches?

its a good idea to fit the top hinge pin pointing down to stop the pikies from lifting them off.

Apart from the fact that the considerable weight of each gate is now on hanging on only 1 hinge

You could drill the top pins and put split pins through. Or tack weld a bit on the tops to stop them being lifted off.

Collars with allen headed grubscrews tightened up, into dimple in hinge pin.
