Hi guys,

DIY novice here, I'm a first time buyer learning pretty much everything as I go as I have never owned a property before.

When we moved in we took the front gate off the hinges as it had no receiver for the latch to hang on to. We are now trying to get it back on to the stone posts.

The problem I have is that the hole to attach the latch to is facing a different direction to what I would expect and I'm struggling to find a latch and receiver that is compatible.

I have attached images, would anyone be able to help and advise what latch we need? Or even be able to recommend one?

Thank you for your help!

Lewis

Does your latch have a notch out of it?

You may need to cut a notch out of the latch near the front then you could use this receiver:

or this

Lots more receivers here, but note that all teh latches would need a notch cutting out of it (use a hack saw):

However, I would suggest that you simply do away with the latch idea.
Remove the latch from the gate and put a strike plate (piece of wood or metal block, or L bracket) on the stone gate post. Angle the gate so it always self closes against this strike plate (this will also make postman happy as only has to push gate and not un-latch it).

Else you might have to get a narrower gate that has space for a normal aligned latch

Hi,

Thanks for the reply...

Yes there is a little notch / hole in the stone where something used to be, I've attached an image.

I'll try one of the first two links and hopefully there will be no problems with sizing and spaces etc. Fingere crossed.
