Getting a matt/eggshell finish on Melamine

Hi,
Does anyone know if/how it is possible to get a matt/satin eggshell finish on Melamine wood ?
We have some melamine wood that looks too shiny and modern in our old (white wood) style living room, was hoping we could paint our melamine white wood with melamine paint and make it look more rusitc/matt/eggshell ..
