The previous owners of our house had those little self-adhesive sticky hooks which you use to put up nets. They had attached them to the uPVC frames of the windows and although we've removed the hooks, there are sticky brown marks left behind. We've tried baby wipes, orange oil, white spirit, Brasso, sandpaper (!) and wire wool, but nothing is removing the glue.

Does anyone have any ideas what we can try next? It's rather unsightly! The other option would be to cover it with some sort of uPVC paint but I honestly don't know if such a thing exists, and it would still be obvious because it's a raised mark.

Any advice?

you could carefully try nail polish remover. white cloth only or the colour will bleed into the profile.

or scrape very gently with a very sharp blade but if you get it wrong you could end up scratching the frame with the blade.

Try using toothpaste. I had a lot of glue left on vinyl floor tiles - nothing shifted it then daughter suggested toothpaste and it all came off brilliantly! :D
