Getting old mastic off brickwork

Can anyone tell me if there's any way of getting unsightly mastic off the brickwork?
I've had new windows fitted but the old mastic from the 1960's when the house was built is visible.
I don't want to put facia over the area, just clean it off the brick.
any ideas?

What kind of mastic are you referring to? Do you mean in the brickwork pointing or sealing around a window frame? Perhaps a pic would help?
Virtually all "mastic" can be scraped off, or out, with a sharp edged tool.
