Hi,

when testing the cable to the light I noticed that it had 240V when the switch was on and 57V when the switch was off.

I done some research and further testing. The voltage is between line L & N and also between L & G. nothing between N & G. I also tried my neon screwdriver and that didn't light on the L connection.

As I don't have a Lo Z meter, I bought 3 x 10M Ohm resistors and put them in parallel with the meter and again measured the Voltage. The voltage dropped to about 32V.

Any suggestions please?

thanks in advance
Al

Its just induced voltage from other wires. Your voltmeter has a very high impedance so not enough to sink the induced voltages.

30M Ω wont be enough either. Just hang a lamp across and you'll see it is then zero.

PS, do this with the neon screwdriver
