Hi,
Want to know if I can use double glazed units in my roof for kitchen extension oposed to loads of cost in getting velux type windows installed.
The roof will be sloped.

You cant' fit windows designed for vertical installations in a sloping installation. Velux's aren't that expensive. The only difference in cost will be the cost of the window in fact it would probably be more labour intensive trying to bodge a normal window into a roof.

Thanks for reply, If I can pick your brains, the extension roof will be approx 20 feet by 8 feet, can you recomend some windows, enough to let light in, but no to many to loose all heat in the extended kitchen?
Also I am not sure whether to have a tiled roof or flat roof, your suggestions would be most welcome.

Velux's seem popular as they are a doddle to fit and they certainly work well. Spare parts should never be a problem either. All double glazed rooflights will perform similarly. Whether you have a flat or pitched roof depends on your extension and the house it is attached to, whether you can see it or not, what you think of flat roofs, allsorts. Sometimes the existing house setting out determines that a pitched roof extension won't work. The cost difference between a flatty and a pitched roof nowadays is not great. With good workmanship a flatty will last 20-100 years depending on materials chosen. Same goes for a pitched.

Standard rooflights can be installed in a flat roof albeit with an upstand eg //www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=246041

How many is up to you, sometimes say a bank of 3 fitted together can look better than 3 spaced apart. eg
