Hi,
I can anybody tell me whats wrong with my boiler?
Boiler was installed when I moved in, think quite ancient now!
Pump packed up, and blew all electrics (someone had put 13amp fuse in!)
I replaced pump and 3 amp fuse, but found other items busted. To cut a long story short changed programmer, mid position valve, and hot water tank temp sensor. Everything now works but boiler will not ignite. Pilot light stays on ok. Have changed Thermocouple, still no joy. That is about the extent of my knowledge, do not fancy touching boiler unless it is something simple.
Any Ideas?

Presumably, to complete the suite of blown electrics, the gas valve solenoid and/or the boiler thermostat will have failed. Replacing gas valve (or just solenoid if possible) if a Corgi job. Might be worth trying to find someone with a second hand gas valve - there should be a few around.

Thanks will try that, seems to be on the right track boiler seems completly dead on electrics side.

I take it that when heat is called for the pump does run ???

I notice you said you've replaced the mid pos valve, have you wired it back up correctly so that the orange wire from the valve feeds both the pump and the boiler live? one way to check this, if the pump does run, is to check the incoming voltage to the boiler with a multimeter to check for 240v when there is a demand, if power is there then the problem lies with the boiler, but check first if there is a fuse within the boiler and test that if there is.
Secondly is there an overheat stat on th boiler ? could be a button somewhere around the thermosta that may need resetting due to the pump stopping.
Thirdly check that there is'nt a separate fused spur that only feeds the boiler, (installers used to put these on years ago to facilitate servicing), as the fuse could have gone in that.

Just as a note, (dont mean to insult you wit this), but the thermocouple won't prevent the boiler from lighting as long as it has kept lit when the button has been released, which is another thing try pulling the button out after you have released it to make sure it is in the run position as some stick in a littlt just enough to prevent them from lighting especially when they're getting on a bit.

Hope this helps and good luck, Trev......
