My 55F is still chugging along and the engineer says "they don't make them like this anymore" and talks fondly of it's quality. recently it has had problems starting. The pump starts up OK but the pilot light does not spark until I give the casing a firm smack on the l/h side. Then all is fine, but came back from holiday to find the fuse blown, and although some nostalgia felt remembering my parents first telly requiring the odd gentle tap, this situation will not do, especially if there is scold snap when We are away!

Any suggestions as to what might need cleaning, replacing etc.

Thanks

Not much diy stuff on your boiler, best bet is to get someone in.

Most likely the fan as it is the most common cause of blown fuse on fuelsaver as its motor sits in the flueway it was probably running slow and not quite making air pressure switch and when you knocked lhs it triggered air pressure switch. I would not recommend a diy fix as its a positive flued boiler with high co risk if not fixed correctly
