Can someone confirm something for me.
Boiler Vent that is in loft above water tank was below water level. Maybe a silly question, but would that overheat the boiler. Would it also make the boiler not perform timed heating functions. I emptied tank a little as was overflowing into outlet to outside of the house.

No it would not overheat the boiler. Rather thasn just empty the F&E tank you need to either bend the ball valve to lower the level or replace it if it is passing water, as it will fill up again otherwise.

Overheating is usually either pump failure or airlock not allowing heat to get away from boiler. Can you describe whats going on a bit better?

Thanks for replying Alfredo,

To explain further- Heating was not coming on from timer but would work when on constant. Boiler would go to reset and I could start again but would then cut out (if on timed). The copper pipe above the F&E which I presume is from the boiler was feeding into the F&E a little at a time thus filling up the F&E. Ball valve not causing problem or leaking. Since turning down boiler and emptying F&E a little bit, heating seems to be working. I am just mistified why water feeds from copper pipe to F&E. Would it be because the boiler was too high therefore filling up F&E and submerging the pipe?

Sorry if too long but not my field.

What speed is your pump on..normally three to choose from. If on 3 turn it to 2. It could be doing what we call "pumping over" if on 3, and also adding air to system by cavitation.

please report back on findings.

Alfredo,

Thanks for the advice. It is on 3 at present. I will report back tomorrow once changed to 2.

Much obliged.
