With a current of 0.16 Amps then impedance of the solenoid would be 150 ohms. The measured DC resistance might be a little lowew depending on its inductance.

It would be interesting if you could measure the resistance of the old valve coil.

What the engineer seems to be saying is that any 24 vac 1/2" gas valve would do the job. Whilst thats corrrect many engineers would hesitate to fit a different type to the original style used by the manufacturer.

But it is a K9049, which is the valve that appears to fit the glow worm 38 CF, so it should be alright, I would think?

Anyway, I'll find out when British Gas arrive this afternoon!
 
Engineer been - valve fitted, everything working fine now! Phew!

Just seen another one of those valves on ebay for £350! They must be like gold dust!
