Have read the comments re 30Cxi and I also have had to have two flushings which has helped but only 1 of the Vailiant engineers has been able to stop the noise during operation (especially in the cold) sounds like a diesel engine then quietnes down. Their visits are too costly and since my local plumber has done a good service it is still noisy - anyone know how to fix this - seem to rcall engineer said it was the gas mix?

sounds like dirt in the heat exchanger. Systems only need flushing once not sure why yours has been done twice. I'm assuming it hasnt been powerflushed which is probably what it needs if your still getting problems
