We returned this evening to find the boiler was switching itself off and on. It would start the fan then switch off, no ignition no pilot light, It continues to do this.

We got an engineer out ( At a call out charge of £55 he said he thought it was the PCB and would cost £350 plus VAt to replace, He went on to say that there may be other problems but he wouldnt be able to find them until we got a new PCB.

We simply cannot afford all that money does anyone have any advice so we could try to fix the problem ourselves?

I would be grateful for any advice.

Board Full Retail is £194 inc vat. Quite a common fault, but wouldn't usually make the boiler come on by itself.
20 mins to fit, but he has to fetch it, which may be chargeable. I carry them.
Several other things to check FIRST.
