hi all

i have the above boiler and as of the weekend we are stuggling to get anything more than luke warm water out of it.

the boiler fan kicks in, then the burner light comes on for about 10 secs. the light then goes off and take a couple of mins before it comes on again for another 10 secs or so.

the fan is on constant throughout this cycle.

the reset light stays off throughout also.

ive found a diagram from another thread with all the lighting combinations but this one is not pictured.

im assuming weve got warm water because we are slowly heating the water up. but not very high.

does anybody have any advice they could offer?

i am no heating engineer so talk slowly ;)

cheers

Its always difficult to come to any firm conclusion about boiler faults when only given a description of whats happening because there can be so many causes. To correctly diagnose the cause its necessary to do some texts.

In your case, although it could be a PCB fault, we dont give advice on DIY repairs to gas aspects which yours probably is.

So the general advice would be to get a gas safe reg engineer. It could well be a relatively simple problem.

You could check that your pump is running.
Other than that, the checks would involve removal
of the boiler case and that is not for a diyer

thanks guys.

im not planning on touching the thing myself. but it would be a good if i could get some idea of the issue before calling someone qualifies to have a look and give me a nice bill.

i told the wife to turn the dial down to 12 oclock. it was at about 4 oclock.

that appears to have sorted it, we have hotter water. still not red hot.

the burner is staying on now

dodgy fan or thermostat maybe?

Hi - I have the same boiler, and it had a fault which seems very similar to yours a year ago. It would fire up, run for a short time, then go off, then restart. It was the fan that required replacement, it was running, but not at full speed, thereby not venting the boiler properly. A new fan fixed things.

cheers pal

ive got home today and its still playing funny buggers.

so can i change this fan myself?

seeing that just a like for like mechanical replacement.

because i didnt know what was wrong to start with.

the fan is a mechanical part.

i wouldnt mess with the airbags on my car, but i would change an oil filter

so if i can just swap a part out without going near anything technical, i will.

but if swapping that part requires me to do a lot more (ie the reasons you need gas safe cert) and if you (the experts) tell me i shouldnt go near it at all, then i wont.

i do value your opinion

thanks.

I expect that you would manage to change the fan. But that may not be the problem!

However, the only correct advice that we can give here, is that a DIYer should not be opening the combustion chamber ( where the fan is located! ).

Tony

no problem with that.

cheers.

a least i have an idea now of the fault and if im correct, i also have an idea of cost.

thanks all, appreciated
