Just had a new bathroom fitted and wanted to glue a large mirror to the tiled wall. We had a mirror glued in my last flat and it seemed fine. Our new fitter said he'd prefer to screw it to the wall as it is safer. If we can glue it, what's the best type to use?

Use double sided foam pads. This will take the uneveness of the wall out.

Hey Krok,

Problem with glueing is the mirror is only mounted as strong as the glue, which in turn is relying on the strength of the bond between tile and plaster which in turn is relying on the strength of bond between plaster and wall.

If it's screwed in then it'll be fixed directly to the brick.

I don't know what the best glue to use is but if it were my bathroom I'd screw it to the wall.

Regards

As gcol says use a proper mirror adhesive, no risk of the solvents affecting the silvering.

I Usually get a mirror cut to suit multiples of the tile sizes then glue it in flush with the tiles and grout round the edge once set, gives a nice clean smooth look.

For very large mirrors you should maybe consider some kind of mechanical fixing. However a strong purpose made mirror adhesive should do the job.

Make certain that it is neutral cure, so wont damage the mirror. If you're planning to use it in a bathroom, then be sure to pick one that is resistant to humidity.

A good product can be bought on eBay:
