Hi.

Has anyone had experience with Glulam beams.

I've got quite a bit of steel needed for the roof construction and I just wanted to find out if it was easier and more cost effective to use These beams instead.

Thanks.

Normally more expensive and requires bigger members.. but they look nice..

Hi Static.

I'm not to concerned about the look as they will be getting covered.

I was more interested in the overall cost, both in materials and labour.

I will have to pay for the cost of the steel, the fabricator and also the crane and labour costs of getting them in.

Not sure if the total cost of steel would be more or not.

What are the weights of the timber beams in comparison to steel.

Cheers.

Glulam is about 2/3 the weight of steel, but steel is by far easier and cheaper to install.. if glulam was cheaper then it would be used alot more often, only real reason to go glulam is for visual (and environmental sustainability)..

Cheers Static.

That's what the Engineer said, but I just wanted to check for my own curiosity.
