Golden Finial Paints

Hi
I have always wanted to paint the finial of this house a golden colour.
Can anyone recommend any paint ?
I believe it would be unwise to put metal paint up there lest it get struck by a bolt.
But perhaps golden colour paint plus a sort of varnish on top ????
