Government Exam Fiasco

There seems to be a view that our CoViD problems are the governments fault. only politicians cry U-turn.. normal folk see it changing course based on new info.
The policy was that giving teachers predicted marks would lead to excessive numbers of high grades, which the government felt was unacceptable. So they went for the algorithm and accepted that some people would be getting some rather unfair marks. That was all known in advance of the results being announced.

However when the public became aware of the repercussions and the government was criticized they backed down.

The only new information was the amount of flack they got from the press and public. All the rest was known at the time the decision was made.

That's a U turn.

So, how come the final results were altered to be more favourable than the teachers calculated - not predicted.

My youngest seems to have benefited from the fiasco. He passed his BTec (I thought he'd failed it TBH) He passed without taking the exams or completing the coursework.

The Rub is he now has to find a job

Teachers never calculated anything. You seem to be confused.

Teachers do predicted marks based upon their view of the student and did a ranking of students within their class. The marks initially given out were calculated based on predictions, ranking and historical trends by Ofsted. The revised marks were just predicted grades.

Did some work with exam boards years ago, when I was still prepared to work public sector (I refuse now). You will not find a larger bunch of disgruntled ex/can't teach-teachers and cardigan wearers
And yet you believe...
All they could do is come up with a reasonable and balanced assessment and allow kids who thought they could do better, to give it a crack in the Autumn.
Funnily enough...

Even the schools minister admitted, "it was “certainly foreseen” that private school pupils could benefit from the use of the algorithm"

I guess you have a problem with the delineation of private/public and the concept of a level playing field!
