Government rethink re winter fuel payments

He wanted to look like he was serious about reducing spending. Pretty much everyone agrees that the WFP is a bad policy. He got praise from the more principled right wingers for making the decision. But doing the right thing isn't always good politics. And it was a relatively small saving. So, all round a massive own goal.
And if they start to apply means testing to allow more pensioners to have it then it will end up costing more than it is supposed to save in the first place. You get the impression this government hasn’t got a clue what they are doing.

Pretty much, you only have to look at the supporters on here of this government to realise they arn''t a full shilling.

It's a pity that there isn't a party just for good looking people, they would get my vote. That way there wouldnt be all this political arguing, there just wouldn't be any argument as we would all just be good looking and not bothered about policy's etc.

I just think that political parties need to have clear listed policies before any election. Then there won’t be any surprises.

But this would never happen

What a ridiculous thing to say.

That's like saying that supporters of Joris and his lying bullshoite red bus Brexit weren't a full shilling, either.

Oh, wait.....

But you never say anything when the regulars all are screaming about Trump supporters being thick? Very much one sided to you. You do realise that I assume?

The U turn is too late as the damage has already been done, people will remember when it comes to the next election. They planned it before they were elected and hoped that it will be forgotten by the next election - it wont.
They want to reduce the voting age because they think it will benefit them but I see it backfiring on them as all of those 16 year olds are all being told by grandma how Labour took away their heating over the winter.
You pair can barely remember what you did last week.

Damage my arse.

Whilst sending billions in foreign aid to help other countries pensioners, just not ours!!!!!
Foreign Aid is governed by international rules and agreements, as well as national rules.
The Foreign Aid Budget is not strictly Ring-fenced, and it can be spent on other projects. But WFP for pensioners is not one of those other allocations that it can be used for.
It can, for example, be used to help asylum seekers in UK.
So the amount spent abroad has been reduced in recent years, but the funding cannot be diverted to strictly domestic affairs.

I understand fully what foreign aid is.
You obviously do not.

. Funny how you lefties like helping foreigners at the expense of our own.
It is expected that rich western nations contribute to poor, third world countries.
Rich developed country's pensioners are in far better accommodation, are far better nourished and enjoy far better medical services than the whole population of poor third-world countries.
It's also about maintaining international reputation.
