Grant oil combi with no hot water

Both Tibbot and Oilhead have given you sound advice on what to test, have you tried anything they suggested?
As Tibbot has said we're here to help where we can, there's no benefit to us giving free advice other than the warm fuzzy feeling when it's taken on board and the right solution is reached (I doubt any of the guys you've had out spend their spare time trying to help people on this forum).
Boilerman2 and outinthestix have suggested what others reading this have thought, the guys you're getting don't know what they're doing - do you have neighbours on oil who can recommend anyone to get yours working or as I've suggested ask your oil supplier if they have engineers.
I can understand your frustration in having the ongoing problem but curt replies to those trying to help will not get you nearer to a solution we'll just move on to the next one...

Yes i did i went on the Grant site before registering here (i'm not new to the internet ) but I found Oilheads advice useful

But

I need to know if i can remove the divertor valve without getting wet and where to buy a repair kit before i go any further

A diaphragm kit is availible from any boiler spares stockist, you will need to turn off the cold water valve on the inlety to the boiler and releadse the pressure by opening a hot tap, an old towel under the diverter is sufficient to catch what water is left, you will have to undo the top 1/2" union nut on the diverter, befor undoing the 8 X head screws, make sure the new diaphragm is fitted the same way round as the one coming out, and a new 1/2" fibre washer for the top union. about 15mins for an ametuer,

There hows that for good advice

BUTR HONESTLY a Boiler Engineer that can't change a Diaphragm ?
I'd Bloody well sack him on the spot!!!

giving up on a 6 year old grant is a serious waste of money, i guarantee that a decent engineer and a few quid spent rectifying the causes of the problems would give you several years of good service. have you tryed oftec for a recommendation?

thank you very much for that

I know i thought it was shocking, considering the standard of service we get around here from so-called boiler engineers i'm not surprised they seem perfectly happy to clean a few parts and charge £200 for a "service" but not actually repair anything but then i wonder what makes them the most money ???

I still havent got one to visit , one said he would yesterday sounded good on the phone but didnt turn up.

I'm going to take some convincing my boiler is worth keeping it really doesnt have a good track record :(

It's an oil combi. They don't HAVE a good track record. Then again, those who have problems will probably have the same opinion of gas combies.

Without regular service, what boiler does have a good track record? If your boiler needed washing every week and parking on the drive, it would pewrform much much better!
It amazes me that people can ignore something they absolutely rely on for basic heating and hot water, yet moan like hell as soon as it goes wrong. Today's prize phone call was from alendlord about an oil boiler in a rented house, family with small kids etc:
"Can you come tomorrow, Saturday or Sunday? I'm fed up with this boiler, it happens every year when it gets cold!"

Iv'e had a really good un today, we've had 5" of snow today, a lady who declined our offer of an annual boiler service last march was to-day raging because we couldn't get to her remote house because of the snow in less than one hour (we got there this afternoon) how dare we leave her without heat for nearly a whole day!! best was the fault was a balanced flue blocked with ........ SNOW
apparently she does not remember us contacting her about the service last march :x

Well its not the divertor valve diaphram or the microswitch

Changed both today , finally gave up on the plumber who promised faithfully he would get the parts and fit them between xmas and new year so ordered the parts myself

Couldnt see any problems with the old diaphram but changed it anyhow , when the tap is turned FULL on the pin comes out and microswitch trips and boiler ignites but on full flow the water just doesnt heat up , if you turn the the tap flow down then the water gets warmer but turn it down too far and the boiler clicks off ie not enough flow to activate the diaphram/switch

Guessing the valve could be the culprit but i will clean the filter (it looked clear) and strip/check it again

I will add again i do have the boiler serviced without fail every year normally in Feb but i cant recall the last time it has gone from one service to another with having a callout in between

I darent jinx it but we have a 14yr old gas combi in a flat we rent out so comparing like for like this boiler oil boiler is VERY unreliable
